Welcome to Toucansto Kennels

My name is Laurie Burt, a registered breeder with the Australian National Kennel Council.
I am also a memeber of The Jack Russell Club NSW, as well as being a foundation member of the Jack Russell Terrier Club, Hunter Region NSW.
I chose the kennel name Toucansto (pronounced 'to-cans-two' ) because of my love of this magnificant bird, the toucan.
We are a small kennel breeding only a few litters a year and puppies are sometimes available .
I have been breeding, showing them since 1999 and all of my dogs are DNA profiled.

It all started when I had to put down one of my Border Collies ' B J'  We had had him for seventeen years We breed him, did Obedience with him and worked cattle with him.
My wife Diane and myself did a lot of research on the Jack Russell Terrier before deciding to buy one back in 1999.
So we looked at lots of Jack Russell Terriers, all the different types Rough Coat, Broken Coat and Smooth Coat. We looked at dogs with patches over one eye, patches on the body, but every pup was different in so many ways. No puppy had the same marking. This is why I love this breed, a working little terrier with a big heart. A big dog in a little body. Brave, fearless and intelligent.

Temperament was very important to us so we looked for the right registered breeder in our area. We put our name down on the list and waited and waited.
My son Luke, then four years old, keep on asking every day, when are we going to get a Jack Russell pup.
I kept on telling him as soon as the right comes along.
Then in 1999 it happened. We purchased Sanford Urdrif, 'Rebel' , as we called him. He was a broken coated dog with tan head and tail markings on a white body.
Rebel was full of energy, full of life and just a great mate and a friend and a great looking dog .

The second dog was Sanford Yre Pollyanna. 'Honey' as she is known to us, was acquired as a baby puppy in 2000 and became our foundation bitch.
Our dogs are not only show dogs, they are my mates and my friends and each one is different.
We as a family enjoy a lot of activities with our dogs, walks though the parks, showing, racing, and swimming.
They are part of our life.
